#At Home With Me

COVID 19 TIPS

Do not go outside your house unless it is absolutely urgent, like a fire started.

Try not to touch your face at all.

Wear a face mask whenever leaving the house.

Wash hands regularly.

Children Safety Tips (For parents)

Dear parents, it is not safe to allow a child to go out on their own. Children are being kidnapped, abused, enslaved, trafficked and raped. Anything can happen, so here are a few tips:

Don't let your kids go out alone.

Have a curfew for teens.

Don't allow them to talk to strangers.

If you are at work and need someone to pick your kid up from school, anyone can say "Your mum sent me to get you, c'mon let's go." So have a code, give the code to the person you asked to pick up your child, tell your child the code and that if anyone wants to take them somewhere they should ask for the code.

Internet Safety (Kids and Parents)

Parents:

You wake up in the morning just to find your child doodling something again on his laptop. You are about to go to bed and he/she is still on some online game with people she doesn't know. You start looking into it more and find out that the internet isn't all that safe. What do you do about it?

Get an antivirus for laptops in the house.

Ban your kid from any site that seems unsafe (excluding mine of course).

Some ads have a trojan or a worm hiding in them. So when clicked, it grants access to a virus.

Children:

The unlimited games on google are so attractive that we children can't help ourselves.

We need to understand that not everything is safe. Seriously, we can't click all the colorful things we see on google.

Don't go to all sites that say they are good. Sometimes, they are made to drive money out of accounts.

TV:

Let's see, you, a kid are bored and looking for something to watch on the telly (TV). You finally see something that sounds interesting but it's rated 16. You are only nine. You watch it anyway. Oh no! You just saw something you will never forget. You can't even sleep in your room at night.

If you have a DSTV decoder like me, when something is not for your age, look down after a space where the name of the show is. If there's nothing there, go ahead and watch it.

If you are from age three- nine, why don't you stick to 308, 307, 306 and occasionally 305.

Let's say you are seven to ten, you can watch 303, 304 and occasionally 305. And if you are a nine or ten year old and are into detective movies like me, 117 and 171 might be interesting. You want to learn how to cook, you say? Stop the train at 175.

302 and 301 are mostly watched by five to tens depending on what they are showing at the moment.

Please, rated movies are NOT for kids.

Home Safety:

Scenario 1:

It's been a long, weary day. You, as a parent, gets into bed. Your child stays up later and watches TV in the living room, suddenly, she/he hears a knock on the door, as everyone is asleep, she has no choice but to open it. The door opens and a man in a hoodie stands in the dark, dreary passage. You here a scream, you rush out of your room to the living room, there's bullet holes, scattered living room and open door. Your child/children are gone.

Never let your child open the door alone if below the age of ten.

Could you teach your kids some self-defence techniques? It will always come in handy.

Give your kid some strict instructions on how things should go if they are kidnapped etc.

Scenario 2: Strictly for Adults

You leave your house for a minute to get some cooking oil or go shopping. You have left your teenage kids at home alone. As soon as your car drives off, some people jump over the fence and abuse them.

Do not leave your kids, teenage or not, unprotected.

COVID CALM TIPS:

Are you stressed out or scared. Maybe even worried. Don't panic 'cos there's a solution.

Find a quiet place. Think. Relax. Exercise while listening to your favourite jams. Get some snacks and read your favorite blog (well, you are already here). Chat with your friends and make the most of staying at home with your family or friend. Make brownies or cakes. Stay calm be happy.
